Some activities of the Chair and of the Trust this week.
On Monday I had a meeting with new Members of the Trust and we toured our schools. As a Trust we have to have Members. Our Trust's has five members, myself, as Chair of the Board of Directors and of the Members, one Director, Keith Greenwood, the Diocesan Board, represented by David Worden and two independent people. The two independent people are new to the Trust, Dr Miya Bond and Simon Phillips. Our meeting involved Miya, Simon, Mike Johnson (Executive Headteacher) and myself. In our meeting we discussed the national arrangements, for academies and multi-academy trusts, the arrangements of CAT and some of the strategic work, developments and challenges for the Trust. Following the meeting Mike took us on a tour of Chulmleigh Community College. The three Members then went to Chulmleigh Primary School where Tracy Dodd showed us around the school and explained some of the work, achievements and challenges for the school. From Chulmleigh we drove to Burrington Primary School where Bob Walters (senior teacher) showed us the school and we were pleased to learn about some of the topic work of this term. On-wards to Lapford Primary School, where Clare Aldrich (senior teacher) filled us with enthusiasm about what the school was doing and achieving. Our final stop was at East Worlington Primary School, where Suzie Pinn (senior teacher) explained how the school was growing with pupil number increasing as a result of the reputation of the school. Each of our schools while being part of a family of schools within an inclusive Trust have there own identity, ethos, strengths and challenges and it was possible to identify all these aspects of individuality while appreciating how working collaboratively across schools in the Trust support standards and school improvement and maximises opportunities for both pupils and staff. On returning to Chulmleigh Community College we had a very interesting meeting with four year 10 students who were very articulate in explaining the strengths of the school and how they thought it was a good school that provided them with good learning experiences and a wide range of opportunities including sport, music, drama, Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Ten Tors, and school visits.
Much of the rest of my week, in connection with Trust business, was undertaken by email and telephone communications. On Friday Mike Johnson, Paul Winter (Director), and myself held our now regularly strategic meetings to maintain the Trust's focus and activities in achieving its strategic direction.
