Chulmleigh Community Schools Federation Celebrate Indian Culture. |
|
On Tuesday 22nd June, in glorious sunshine, with an audience of more than 250 people, children from ages 5-15 across the School's Federation, performed the wonderful ancient Indian story of the 'Ramayana.' Staff and children, in full costume, re-enacted the journey and exiting adventures of Prince Rama, his beautiful wife Sita and brother Lakshman. Helped by the king of the monkeys and his Monkey Army they fought the forest and sea demons belonging to the evil Ravanva, king of all demons. Led by five 3 metre high moving puppets made by the children from both schools, and accompanied by the deep rhythmic sounds of African drums, the audience travelled from stage to stage across the schools' campuses. The production included Bhangra music, contemporary dancing. skilled puppeteering and of course great acting. |

| The spectacular display finished with a Bollywood style party fit for the end of Slumdog Millionaire! To get in to the mood for the production the Primary School children prepared and cooked an Indian feast to be shared at a whole school party. The Ramayana project showed how creative cross phase can enthuse and engage pupils.
The event was a tremendous success and celebrated the importance of communities being fully involved with cultural diversity. |
