Year 5 and 6 attended the annual school's tag rugby festival at Barnstaple Rugby Club, run by Sports leaders from Petroc College. The weather was great and we were glad to find some shade under the trees!
As usual, the team played brilliantly from the word go! In the first round, we won 4 out of our 5 matches, which put us through to the final 16 for the Plate and Cup decider round. Winners of this match went through to the Cup play-off; losers to the Plate play-off. We were thrilled to win against Kings Nympton, winning 5-3 - the first time we have beaten them, as they always field a good team. So we were set up for the quarter finals of the Cup! At 3 all, it was anyone's game. Our team restarted and made good progress down the field, with some clever passing, as they weaved through a very determined Bishop's Nympton. As Freddie was about to cross the line, he was tagged as he stumbled to the ground. Three team members were there in force to receive his pass and make the try, but as Freddie passed, it inadvertently slipped between his team mates and was scooped up by one of their opponents, who raced away to take the try. Showing no sign of being dispirited, they continued to fight on with determination, but alas where pipped at the post. What a great afternoon and the whole team can be very proud of themselves on a fine day out! P.S. Sam was nominated for the kicking competition and got through to the last 5 (out of at least 20), with some sterling kicking. Well done, Sam
