Last week Mr Johnson very much enjoyed talking to the pupils who compete regularly in a number of equestrian competitions: Margot Scudamore Year 7, Myrtle Scudamore Year 6, Lucy Vaux Year 8, Scarlett Vaux Year 9, Grace Sinclair Year 9, William Barlow Year 9, Freddie Barlow Year 7, Zak Flanagan Year 6, Rebecca Pulford Year 8, and Ella Otto Year 7.
They take part in a wide range of competitions, both locally and nationally, including arena eventing, showjumping, cross country, dressage and tetrathlon (riding, swimming, running and shooting), jumping heights from 50cm to 120cm!
Pupils compete both individually and as teams for the National Schools Equestrian Association events, which are a series of local rounds with qualifiers for national competitions, as well as in the North Devon Schools Show Jumping League and other Pony Club events. Grace also competes in British Showjumping events.
It was a delight to hear the enthusiasm, commitment and competitive spirit they all have for their sport; none of them seemed fazed by the sheer amount of hard work involved in both training for what they do, as well as looking after their ponies, and they all have great ambitions to compete locally, nationally and even internationally!
We have already reported many of their achievements in Optime, including one on this page and look forward to hearing about more of their successes. We understand that on 10th February, Lucy, Scarlett and Grace are going to a qualifier for the Windsor Horse Show, so good luck!
If any pupils are interested in joining the North Devon Schools Showjumping League, commencing in March, please see Mrs Berry at the College, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The jump height starts at 40cm so novice or young riders welcome.22 hours ago
