Progress 8

Progress 8 is used as a measure of the progress pupils make between the end of primary school and the end of secondary school.
It is based on pupil performance across eight qualifications: English and Maths, up to three subjects from the EBacc list, and pupils’ three highest scores from a range of other qualifications.

CHULMLEIGH  COLLEGE PROGRESS 8 2018 +0.53 and in the top 10% of schools in England, with pupil progress well above national average; consistently in the top three schools in Devon.

The performance and progress of all our groups of pupils, from whatever background or ability, is beyond national expectations. The Progress 8 in 2017 was +0.43, when the College was again ranked third in Devon.

A score of +0.53 means that pupils achieve more than half a grade higher in each qualification than similar pupils do nationally.

The national average Progress 8 score is 0.

The English Baccalaureate

The English Baccalaureate, or EBacc, is a measure of how many pupils achieve a good GCSE pass in six core academic subjects: English, Maths, History or Geography, Combined Science (which counts as two passes) and a language. In addition, pupils must take both English Language and Literature, although they only need a grade A*-C (old GCSE grading) or 5+ (new GCSE grading) in one of them.
