Key Stage 4 Pathway - Years 10 & 11

Pupils at Chulmleigh Community College will study a broad range of qualifications in Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).  We call this programme of study our ‘Key Stage Four Pathway’.

Pupils will study a combination of core subjects (which are compulsory) and Optional Subjects (which they may choose).  Full details of the programme can be found in the link to our booklet below.

Every pupil at Chulmleigh will study the following compulsory subjects:
(unless advised by our Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

  • GCSE Mathematics
  • GCSE Combined Sciences
  • GCSE French and/or Spanish
  • GCSE Religious Studies
  • Physical Education (non examined)
  • GCSE History or Geography
  • Personal, Social and Health Education (non-assessed)

In addition to the subjects above pupils are permitted to choose two optional GCSEs from our Pathways Booklet.

At Chulmleigh we teach the English Baccalaureate suite of subjects to all pupils.  In 2018 our EBacc results (average points score)  topped the charts for non-selective schools in Devon and the South West. The Government has announced that by 2020 90% of pupils should study this selection of GCSE subjects, which are English, Mathematics, two Sciences, a Modern Foreign Language and Geography or History.  We want all our pupils to leave us at the end of Year 11 with the English Baccalaureate because we see this as a challenging, rewarding and relevant spread of subjects that will give our pupils every opportunity in accessing the very best in further and higher education and the employment market.

We believe our pupils can achieve the very best and our curriculum reflects this.
