Year 11 – the Senior Guild

Following successful completion of the Year 10 Junior Guild, pupils will progress to Chulmleigh College’s Senior Guild.  It is the Senior Guild that prepares pupils for the completion of GCSE Examinations at the end of Year 11 alongside Non-Examined Assessments (NEA), which form part of the final grading in some more practical subjects.

The intention of our tutoring system is that pupils will follow their form tutor and Head of Year as they progress through our College.  This arrangement creates a special and trusting relationship between the pupil and their family, with a Head of Year and Tutor.  Our aim is that every pupil has a trusted adult they can always turn to at school.  This helps us ensure our pupils feel safe and known and also allows us to monitor the welfare and progress of our pupils from a position of personal understanding.

Waiting for each year group in the Senior Guild is our Guild Intervention Team.  Our Heads of English, Mathematics, Sciences and Modern Foreign Languages provide targeted intervention as part of our Guild programme, so that any gaps in knowledge, skills and understanding are addressed in the run-up to the final public examinations each summer.  The Intervention Team extract small groups of pupils from tutor groups to work alongside them.  This flexible and precision approach means that no one in Year 11 is permitted to fall behind in our four main core subjects.

Our Year 11 Guild meets each afternoon between 15.00-15.30.  The following activities take place within the Senior Guild:

• Silent Public Study
• Core Subject Intervention
• Careers Advice
• Assertive Mentoring
• Revision

Year 11 Prefect System

At the end of Year 10 pupils have the opportunity to apply to become a Prefect. As the most senior pupils within the school, we feel that those successful in their application can further develop their leadership skills ready for their lives after leaving Chulmleigh College. With these skills being in such demand in a modern and fluid workplace, we aim to produce the next generation of leaders.
We ask our pupils to give something back to the school community, not only through setting the highest example to the rest of the school, but also through giving their time and helping to form part of a safe school environment.
Within this team of Prefects there are also senior positions: Head Boy and Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl. They are supported by a team of Senior Prefects, Subject Captains and Prefects.
Prefect duties comprise of bus duty and lunchtime supervision. We believe that pupils self-regulating and witnessing each other showing responsibility is the best way to instil those values in our everyday life.
