Sex & Relationships Education

We believe that good quality, age appropriate SRE (Sex and Relationships Education) will give our students the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed, safe choices and we recognise that SRE in school needs to complement the wider provision of information, advice and support, led by parents.

During the delivery of SRE there is a strong focus on ‘relationships’ and the skills and values that young people need as they progress through childhood and adolescence, into adulthood. We promote a clear and explicit values framework of mutual respect, rights and responsibilities, gender equality and acceptance of diversity and we endeavour to be inclusive and meet the needs of all our students. During Sex and Relationships Education the factual aspects are taught and attention is paid to improving young people’s knowledge of topics such as contraception, pornography and sexually transmitted infections.  We work in partnership with external health professionals who bring expertise into SRE delivery and ensure that young people have access to appropriate advice and support on sex and relationships outside the classroom.  Explicit links are made with the other parts of the PSHE curriculum, in particular alcohol education, given the strong links between binge drinking and risky sexual behaviour.
