Who's Who

Lully Newman

I am very lucky to be Head of School at such a wonderful place as Chulmleigh Primary School!  Having taught within Chulmleigh Academy Trust for the last six years, as a KS1/Reception teacher and EYFS Lead, working closely with our preschool, I have had the privilege of  knowing many of the children since they first began their journey through our school.  I believe passionately in the benefits of children learning through experience and have just as much fun in our outdoor learning sessions as the four year olds I teach!  We have astonishingly dedicated staff at Chulmleigh and I am very excited to be leading such a strong and dynamic team.

Alex Whapham

Hi, I'm Miss Whapham and I am lucky enough to be teaching Willow Class this year as part of the Year 4/5 team. It is an exciting opportunity to have a change of year group to further down KS2 and I look forward to using my knowledge of Year 6 to aim high with our learning this year! I am the ICT coordinator across the Academy and also run the Digital Leaders at CPS. My favourite subject to teach is Maths and I enjoy problem solving the most. Outside of school, I like to spend time on the beach with my dog Max and watch the Exeter Chiefs play.

Jacob Smith

I have the privilege of teaching Beech class in Year 2. I am particularly interested in the teaching of history and am Humanities co-ordinator for the school.

Prior to teaching at Chulmleigh, I worked in a variety of educational roles both in and out of the classroom across Oxfordshire and Devon.

I look forward to an exciting year and welcome any questions or queries about the Year 2 you may have.

Bryony De-Ritis

Hello,

I have the privilege of teaching year three in Yew Class this year. I am very excited to have joined Chulmleigh School as a member of staff, it is my first year of teaching and I am so pleased to be spending it surrounded by such happy and kind pupils and staff. My favourite subjects are P.E, English and Science, however, I love challenging myself in Maths, History and Art too. In my spare time, I play netball and drag my family out for long walks around the North Devon countryside and coast. I love taking learning outside so plan to use the wonderful Woody Wonders area at school lots this year!

Rachel Worsley

I simply love teaching at Chulmleigh Primary School, the children and staff are all so positive and super friendly.  My favourite subject is art but I am enthusiastic about all subjects. I am currently teaching Ash Class, years 4 and 5 children which I am thoroughly enjoying, getting to work alongside such talented and independent young children is a real privilege.

I am an outdoors person and pretty active. I like to spend my spare time walking and running the coastal paths of North Devon with my three doggies.

Helen Rowden

As a part time teacher of Year 1 this year, I am looking forward to working with Hazel class and all the children as they progress on their learning journeys. In particular, I am excited to have the opportunity to teach Geography and Physical Education along with Science to the young children, as I have a  lot of experience and enthusiasm for these areas of the curriculum. Indeed my interests are swimming, sports in general and walking in the beautiful Devon countryside where there is so much to learn about the surrounding nature. In recent years, I have discovered the exhilaration of sea swimming!

Kirstin le Gros (Kirsty)

Hello! I have the joy of being Douglas Fir’s class teacher this year; working as part of the incredible year 4/5 team. I am very pleased to be undertaking the exciting challenge of moving up to a new year group with a super-talented class of young children.

I am the science coordinator across the academy and look forward to organising another riveting science week and continue running Eco club; promoting environmental awareness both locally and across the world. I really enjoy teaching art and PSHE, being creative and discussing new ideas.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my new puppy, Kasey, and walking the footpaths across mid Devon. When the weather gets too wet, I like to watch movies and bake cakes.

Kelly Stapley

I have been teaching for 10 years. My experience is teaching from nursery aged children through to yr2. I love books and engaging the children into all areas of the curriculum through a good book.

I love spending time with my family where we enjoy woodland walks and going to see new and interesting places.

Vicki Tucker

This is my third year teaching at Chulmleigh, after having worked in London for 10 years. I am an experienced KS1 teacher and have been a local authority moderator and an assistant head teacher. I am so excited to be teaching Year 6 this year and am looking forward to teaching a new year group and developing our creative curriculum.

I have been an English Subject Leader for the past 8 years and am very happy to be continuing in that role here at Chulmleigh.

Two of my biggest passions are reading and creative writing. I am always trying to find new ways to teach the curriculum so that children become writers, not just children who can write, and I love introducing children to new authors and books to develop their love of reading and writing.

I set very high expectations of both myself and my class and expect that we all help each other to be the very best we can be. I am passionate about providing children with the skills to become independent learners and encourage them to try and solve their problems themselves as much as they can.

Outside of school I like walking on Exmoor, travelling to new places and reading.

I am delighted to be working as part of a dedicated and supportive team in the PFSU.  I share the teaching of the Reception Class children with Lully Newman.  In addition, this year I am undertaking a project across the Academy Primaries to support Speech and Language development.  I have been teaching Foundation Stage children for 20 years and consider it a privilege to be supporting children at the start of their learning journey.  I look forward to an exciting and fun year ahead.

Julie DeFuyck

Hi, I’m delighted to be joining such a friendly and dedicated team at Chulmleigh and having the opportunity to be teaching in the Year 6 Academy. I also lead maths across the academy.
I have been teaching for the past twelve years in a small school in Torquay and leading maths there for 10 of those years.
My favourite part of teaching is seeing children grow both academically but also personally and achieving to their full potential. All children can achieve to the best of their ability and should always be proud of what they do.
Outside of school I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading and baking (although I’m not very good!). But most of all I enjoy spending quality  time with my family and making the most of days together.
