LAMDA

Is Your Child Interested in Drama?

My name is Antonia Whittick, and it is with great excitement that I am able to offer LAMDA lessons to pupils at Chulmleigh, in either pairs or one-to-one tuition.

The sessions will take place during the school day, on a carefully planned revolving timetable, so that pupils do not regularly miss any particular lesson. We have been arranging lessons in this format for several years, with great success, and with the full involvement of the school.

I trained both at Guildford School of Acting and RADA, and spent several years with the Royal Shakespeare Company working on their innovative community projects and their Regents Park seasons.

I have worked as a professional actor, mainly in theatre, but with additional television and radio work included, and I have been involved in numerous 'theatre in education projects' around the country. I relish the opportunity to pass on skills I have learnt as a working actor and provide fun and informative lessons to all students.

Why LAMDA?

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art is one of the U.K.'s oldest drama schools. LAMDA accredited exams are highly prestigious and can count towards the UCAS points system when applying to Universities and Colleges as well as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The syllabus is designed to develop good reading skills: increasing fluency and understanding of written text. It aims to expand vocabulary and improve the powers of self-expression, confidence in speaking in public and listening - it also helps improve memory and recall of information. LAMDA also develops a love of literature, poetry and drama, as pupils participate in a worthwhile activity that is respected as a global standard examination.

LAMDA exams offer an ongoing measurement of progress in speech and drama. They are the speech and drama equivalent of music graded exams, culminating in Grade Five then going on to medals. LAMDA higher qualifications count towards UCAS points, being the equivalent of GCSEs or A Level at LAMDA Gold Medal level, which may be of interest to older pupils when they apply to colleges and universities. Progression through the grades provides benchmarks for every stage of a pupil's progress.

Cost

Individual half hour sessions are charged at £16 and are ideal for children who have either had previous acting experience, or those who would benefit from one-to-one sessions.

Lessons can also be taken in pairs, which brings the cost down to only £8 each per half hour session, so if your child has a friend who is also keen, they can participate together.

In order to make LAMDA as inclusive as possible, rather than fees being based on a full term (which is typical for peripatetic teachers) my fees are payable only half termly in advance, to help everyone budget, averaging six lessons per half term.
