Science Technician

30 hours per week x 39 weeks per year

Grade D: £10.60 to £11.70 per hour  (depending on experience)

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to support our friendly and successful Science Department. The successful candidate should have a genuine interest in science and a willingness to learn and develop their skills as training will be available for the right candidate. Candidates should be well organised, flexible and a strong team player. 

The post holder will be required to work closely with the Head of Science and senior Science Technician but will also need to use their own initiative and be confident to work independently providing practical support to the Department.

The role will include:

  • Preparation and supervision of specialist equipment for lessons.
  • Constructing and modifying specialist apparatus.
  • Taking an active part in demonstrations and episodes of teaching that will include supporting practical classes.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment including the completion of risk assessments.
  • Ordering and maintaining resources.

The Science Department also delivers Animal Care BTEC and oversees the management of the College Farm.  Knowledge relevant to the welfare of animals would be an advantage.

The timetable of the post holder will allow time to support the PE Department one day per week. Tasks will include supporting the Head of PE in the administration of the PE curriculum.

The work pattern is Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 3:30 which allows for a one hour lunch break.

This permanent position will be available from September 2022.
