All of our pupils are able to benefit from a well delivered curriculum that fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum as well as providing additional learning that goes beyond the national requirements. We believe that a broad and balanced education is essential. We work hard to ensure that each child is able to access the curriculum to meet his or her individual needs.   

Our curriculum is supplemented by a wealth of clubs, activities, trips and visits.  You will find more details about how the curriculum is enriched in the Clubs and Activities section of our website.

We believe our pupils can achieve the very best and our curriculum reflects this.  More information on all of our subjects can be found on the tab to the right.

Key Stage 3

The first three years of secondary school are about breadth.  Pupils will study the following subjects: English and English Literature, Mathematics, Sciences, French, Geography, History, Religious studies, Physical Education, ICT, Art, Drama, Music, Food and Nutrition and Technology.

Key Stage 3 builds on the knowledge and skills of Key Stage 2, and also lays the foundations for GCSE and further study; pupils are able to build on their previous experiences to move on to more complex situations.

Key Stage 4

Pupils at Chulmleigh College will study a broad range of qualifications in Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).  We call this programme of study our ‘Key Stage 4 Pathway’.

At Chulmleigh we teach the English Baccalaureate suite of subjects to all pupils. The subjects are English, Mathematics, two Sciences, a Modern Foreign Language and Geography or History.  In 2026 our EBacc results (average points score) was the best for non-selective schools in Devon and the South West.

Although schools will no longer be measured on EBACC results, we believe strongly in the value and raised aspirations that studying a wealth of academic subjects, including modern foreign languages brings to our young people and remain committed to this. We see this as a challenging, rewarding and relevant spread of subjects that will give our pupils every opportunity in accessing the very best in further and higher education and the employment market.
