Chulmleigh Academy Trust – Safeguarding Bulletin
It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of our third week back (virtually or in person) at school. In order to support parents and carers with home education we will continue to provide you with advice and information to support your children through this challenging time.
Last week, Mrs Burks wrote to you signposting a number of organisations that can offer practical advice and support regarding the mental health of your children. Mrs Mackie also wrote with advice on online education and staying safe online. I hope you found both of these resources useful.
Today I want to remind you of our Chulmleigh 5-a-day. We shared this with parents last year during the lockdown and you will also find a copy of this inside your child's pupil planner. We produced this guidance in partnership with the Early Help for Mental Health project, with the objective of providing a framework to help maintain good mental health. We all know how we should maintain good physical health, the principles of good diet, exercise and hygiene are instilled at an early age. We are sometimes, however, not always as good at addressing how we maintain good mental health and this is what the Chulmleigh 5-a-day seeks to support.
The simple principle behind the 5-a-day is to ensure you follow each step, each day. Families can apply and adapt this to home education and lockdown and I encourage you to discuss the document as a family. Can we all say that we all do this and model the steps to our children? This week why not make sure each member of your family completes the 5-a-day, each day? You could keep a note of how each of you are feeling at the start of each activity and again at the end on a scale of 1-5. Make this a habit and you will go some way to maintaining a good level of mental health for you and your family.
Please continue to keep in touch with your teachers.
Yours faithfully
Mr N Payne
Deputy Executive Headteacher/Designated Safeguarding Lead
